Bei der Eröffnung meiner Ausstellung „History“ mit den Arbeiten, die ich auf Basis des I Ging entwickelt habe, wurde ich immer wieder nach Literatur über das I Ging gefragt.

Lao Tse inspirierte die in Deutschland lebende chinesische Künstlerin Kexin Zang mit dem Satz „Ein großes Land regieren, ist wie einen kleinen Fisch braten“ zu den konzeptuellen Fotoarbeiten der Serie „History“. Kexin Zangs künstlerische Methodik ist eine wissenschaftliche Versuchsanordnung von komplexen Kalkulationen, Berechnungen und Zufällen anhand eines historischen Datums, wie zum Beispiel „Der Fall der Mauer“, die sie durch die Systematik des I Ging, das 5000 Jahre alte „Buch der Wandlungen“ aus China, in faszinierende Bildwelten transformiert. Kexin Zang ironisiert humorvoll die an Stillleben erinnernden Kompositionen und macht durch das kalkulierte Spielen mit dem Nichts das Unsichtbare sichtbar.

Lao Tse inspired the Chinese artist Kexin Zang, now living in Germany, with his sentence “Governing a large country is like frying a small fish” to create her conceptual photographic series entitled “History”. Kexin Zang´s artistic methods are scientific experimental settings of complex calculations and coincidences on the basis of a historically meaningful date, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, which will be transformed into her remarkable pictorial world by the system of the I Ching, a 5,000-year old Chinese Book of Changes. Kexin Zang´s photographs are each ironically arranged and composed alike a still life in order to visualize the invisible through her precisely-calculated humorous game with the nonexistent.

„DER KALKULIERTE ZUFALL“ – „Photo Performance II“ von Kexin Zang

Das I-Ging wird befragt, welche Photos in welcher Art und Weise in einem vorgege- benen Raum gemacht werden sollen. Das Ergebnis der Befragung unter Einbeziehen des kalkulierten Zufalls durch Münzwurf sind 5 definierte Kamerapositionen und eine Überraschung: Filme sind nicht vorhanden, photo- graphiert wird ohne Film, 5 identische gerahmte Alumini- umplatten, beschriftet mit Bildtiteln wie: „Photogra- phie ohne Film. Der 4. Schritt nach Osten.“

Date: 06. Jun. 2009 – 30. Aug. 2009

The I-Ching will be consulted to determine in which way photographs of the performance space are to be taken. This consultation, undertaken by tossing coins, will provide five positions for the camera and one surprise: there is no film in the camera. The photographs will be made without film. The result: five identically framed aluminium plates, hand-written with titles such as „Photography without film. The fourth step to the east“.
