Die Künstlerin Kexin Zang (*1978 in Peking, China) beschäftigt sich seit ihrem Studium an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Gestaltung am ZKM Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe (2000 – 2006) mit konzeptueller Photographie. Nicht die einfache Umsetzung von Objekten in photographische Bilder ist für Kexin Zang von Bedeutung. Vielmehr geht es ihr um eine analytische Auseinandersetzung mit eben diesem Medium. Wie viele PhotographInnen arbeit auch Zang projektbezogen. So gibt es neben ihren Photoserien auch die Photo-Performance-Serie THE CALCULATED CHANCE. Die meisten ihrer Arbeiten und Projekte entstehen im Geiste der traditionellen chinesischen Philosophie und Wissenschaft.

Vor Publikum befragt die Künstlerin das I Ging, das uralte chinesische Rechensystem, wie sie sich in einem vorgegeben Raum photographierend bewegen soll. Unter Einbeziehen des kalkulierten Zufalls durch Münzwurf, den Regeln des I Ging folgend, ermittelt sie auf den Koordinaten des Raums genau die Punkte für die Positionen ihrer Kamera und die Blickwinkel einer Serie genau bestimmter Aufnahmen. Die Akteurin und das Publikum im Raum sind somit feste Bestandteile einer Performance.

Das Ergebnis der Performance THE CALCULATED CHANCE III wird vom 02. 7. 2010 bis 31. 7. 2010 in der Galerie gezeigt. Die Eröffnung der Ausstellung findet am Donnerstag, 01. Juli von 19 – 21 H statt.

Since receiving her degree from Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung am ZKM in Karlruhe (200 – 2006), the artist Kexin Zang (* 1978 in Beijing, China) has worked intensely with the photographic medium. It is not only the simple realization of a project in photographic images that interest Kexin Zhang, but rather her analytic confrontation with the medium itself. Like many photographers, Zang works are informed by projects as well as the photo-performance series THE CALCULATED CHANCE. In her latest photo-performance, as in each of her projects, Kexin Zang questions the “I-Ging: the Book of Changes”, and employs it in the creation of her works.

Before a viewing public, the artist asks in the course of the performance how she should move her camera through a given space. In relation to the calculated yet random fall of a coin toss and following the dictates of the “I-Ging”, she ascertains precise coordinate points within the space which determine the position of her camera and camera angel for a series of precise photographs. Both actress and public become constituent elements in a performance.

The photographs resulting from the performance THE CALCULATED CHANCE III will be exhibited July 2. – July 31., 2010. and the opening reception will be on Thursday 1. July, 7 – 9 pm.
